This could be suitable from year 4 as a teaching tool. 

 

How should it be used? (e.g. individual, whole class)
It can be used for the whole class as kind of a “power-point slide.” The great thing about Prezi is that it can be accessed by up to 10 students at one time. 
Which subject or learning area would it be most appropriate to use in?
Prezi in this case is appropriate for Health and Physical Education. 
Identify the strengths of this teaching resource
It’s interactive and because of this, is much less monotonous than a normal power-point presentation. 
Identify any weaknesses of this teaching resource:
It can cause motion sickness in some people.
-It’s web based, so if you have a bad connection or no access to the internet you can’t use this resource. 
Explain any ideas you may have for further use of this teaching resource:
I would use this for a Physical Education class, I’d have a picture of the human body on the screen and use the zoom features to focus on particular parts of the body e.g the skeletal system. I would give access to the students to use the program and get them to reiterate the information in their own words on a blank piece of paper that has an outline of the human body. I’d have them also draw what they see (filling in the organs etc) and discuss in a group why each part of the human body is important. 

 

Participation and the Digital Divide

What is the digital divide? Firstly, to understand what this means, I’ve decided to define the term in order to understand it on a deeper level. As mentioned on (Dictionary) digital divide is the difference between priveleged and underprivelaged people im relation to access of anything digital

Now that I’ve looked deeper into the actual meaning of the word, I’d like to talk about how this relates to us on a societal level. Who is affected most by this digital divide? In an article written by (Bentley 2014)  it’s stated that people on a fixed income may have trouble connecting to the internet. This is leading to a divide within the digital community.

By empowering and providing platforms to help individuals become less margianalised.
Through funding and raising awareness, philanthropic organisations are trying to bridge the gap.

Digital Identities and Digital Security

Digital security has always been a big issue with the technology we have today. There are so many people and organisations out there trying to access private information. The internet has never been a secure place and there are certain things we can do in order to make sure our use of the internet is safe.

Schneier (1963, 3) suggests that over time the internet may become less secure as the security protocols become more sophisticated. I have chosen to focus on identity fraud in my blog.

So what is identity fraud? On the website (Business Dictionary 2016) it is described as someone who gathers a victim’s personal and private information in order to use it for their own benefit. So why would someone want to do this? There are two distinct reasons as mentioned by  (Datenshutz and Datensicherheit 2006, 554) in their studies, they have described these two distinct reasons, these are:

1. Identity Collision- This is usually unintentional, mainly due to persons having the same name or very similar identities.

2.Identity Takeover- When someone takes over someone’s identity without them knowing.

This could potentially be very dangerous with younger people who don’t know the risks involved when putting personal information on the internet. Monitoring and teaching children self-awareness about the hazards of putting any type of personal information of the internet should be a top priority, as it is too easy in this day and age for people with malicious intents to use private information to their advantage.

In conclusion, being aware and capable of changing privacy settings and realising what is appropriate to share with the world, will enable us to have a safe and enjoyable experience on the world wide web.

Digital Fluency

When I think of digital fluency, I think back to what I knew about computers as a child and what I know now. As the technology advances, so does the skills of the new generations.

What does it mean to be digitally fluent? From the information that I’ve gathered, what seems to be apparent is that it is the ability to discover, design and construct ideas in a technological world.
